About the event

The event, awaited by many art lovers, will be held in this highly prized historical place in the capital, a favorite playground where illustrious personalities from the arts and culture lived or worked: de d'Artagnan rue du High school diploma to Serge Gainsbourg rue de Verneuil, passing by several residents of the quai Voltaire such as Jean-Baptiste Corot, Eugène Delacroix, Charles Baudelaire, who completed the writing of Les Fleurs du mal in a hotel room at n° 19. Camille Pissarro where Max Ernst settled on rue de Lille, Karl Lagerfeld on quai Voltaire and Sonia Rykiel on rue des Saints-Pères…

The list of these emblematic characters, although not exhaustive, gives this left bank district a special aura that has attracted many merchants, gathered between the streets of du Bac, Beaune, Lille, Saints-Pères, de l'Université, Verneuil and quai Voltaire – between the Louvre museum and the Orsay-Giscard d'Estaing museum –. Each year in June, each gallery will be keen to share its latest finds, and prepare a program full of surprises for visitors.

The Carré Rive Gauche, which will celebrate its vermeil wedding anniversary next year, returns for this new edition under its original name: “The five days of the extraordinary object”, a theme that has contributed to an undeniable success and has given meaning to the galleries grouped within the association created in 1977.

"The annual event, which will celebrate its 45th anniversary next year, returns under its original name “The 5 days of the Extraordinary Object”. The Carré Rive Gauche is an extraordinary place because the antique dealers and art galleries that make it up are also extraordinary. This eponymous geographical entity is today almost unique in the world of art and its trade. The face of the Carré Rive Gauche has changed little in 45 years, the number of galleries has somewhat decreased in recent years, on the contrary the diversity of specialties has expanded. The quality, availability, expertise and enthusiasm remain intact.»

78 galleriestake part in this open-air event. A wide variety of specialties will be represented. During this walk, each gallery will unveil an artist, a work or an object selected for its extraordinary character. Art lovers will be able, thanks to this eclectic route, to unearth rare objects: ceramics, jewellery, watches, silverware, antiques, old paintings, marine objects, decorative arts, Chinese art, Haute Époque or 18th century furniture, modern creations or contemporary… A journey to the heart of Paris through 7,000 years of history and rare objects.

Since its previous edition, the Carré Rive Gauche association has set up a website – www.carrerivegauche.com – offering new functionalities: in French, English and Chinese with a virtual space dedicated to each gallery allowing to offer a selection of objects for sale. Thanks to this interface, visitors can discover online the latest novelties offered by the galleries of the Carré Rive Gauche, refine their search choices thanks to a powerful engine and keep informed of exhibitions and news from the Carré.
